CapitalSpace sponsors 50 Challenges

We are delighted that one of our clients, CapitalSpace, has become the first corporate sponsor of 50 Challenges, the movement set up by our director, Siobhan Stirling, to inspire those aged 50+ to do more, achieve more and be more than they ever thought possible.

CapitalSpace provides business accommodation for more than 650 SMEs in their nine business centres in Kent, Essex, Surrey and Bedfordshire.  Its success is built on supporting clients in their business growth and in being an integral part of the communities where they operate, regularly fundraising for local charities and supporting their business partners and collaborators in their endeavours. 

Sharp Minds have provided marketing support for CapitalSpace for two years, delivering original digital content and social media management.  When Siobhan explained the concept of 50 Challenges, she was thrilled that CapitalSpace got behind it at once, sponsoring her first challenge: to run the New York Marathon in aid of the MS Society. 

Shared values

‘We see our role as being a true partner in our customers’ success, which means providing far more than four walls and a fast internet connection: it means giving them access to the business intelligence and support they need to achieve their dreams,’ explained managing director Peter Boam.  ‘So when Siobhan approached us for sponsorship, we were delighted to support her.  Completing a marathon is in itself a huge achievement, but as the launch for 50 Challenges, Siobhan is using it to help inspire and motivate others to achieve more than they ever thought possible, which is something that echoes the CapitalSpace philosophy.’

Personal motivation

Launching 50 Challenges at the New York Marathon, Siobhan completed her first challenge, and started her second: to raise £50,000 for the MS Society before she turns 60.  ‘Very dear friends have Multiple Sclerosis, so I have seen at first hand the impact it can have.  One of my friends had to close her business and completely rethink her life, another had a bad attack recently and couldn’t clean her teeth or comb her hair – but it took two weeks for the MS nurse to call her back because she is so overstretched,’ she commented.  ‘MS can have a devastating impact on people’s lives, but it’s a Cinderella disease in terms of funding for support and research.  I will keep on running marathons and fundraising for as long as I know my close friends are facing a future in a wheelchair.’

‘We’re thrilled that Siobhan has set herself such an ambitious target to raise £50,000 for the MS community and we’re delighted that CapitalSpace have helped her get off to a flying start,’ added Nicky Turner, area fundraiser at the MS Society. ‘Her challenges over the next 10 years will help us support more than 100,000 people living with MS in the UK and drive innovative research into the condition.’

Next steps

Having hit her first £5,000 fundraising target, completed the New York Marathon and launched 50 Challenges – all on the day after her 50th birthday – Siobhan is now looking to spread the word: ‘We want to build a community of Challengers who inspire, support and celebrate one another in their endeavours and achievements.  We’re appealing to people to follow us on social media, but we’re also looking for introductions to organisations with shared values who might be willing to tell their members about 50 Challenges, to get them thinking about how they want to define their mid-life and the blueprint they are going to create for the next chapter of their lives.’
