How to get the most out of Twitter

With so many social media platforms to choose from, Twitter can be a valuable asset to your marketing. However, starting from zero followers and creating posts that are relevant to your brand can seem daunting.  It does take a lot of focus at first, but it will start to pay off over time.

Growing your followers

In order to grow, you need to be proactive at all times. That means retweeting posts that are relevant to your brand, networking by following and engaging with other companies and creating content that puts you in a good light in the eyes of your followers. A Twitter follower base works a bit like the snowball effect: the more followers you have means more retweets, which in turn means more brand awareness, therefore increasing your influence on the platform.

Customer support

Many large companies have adopted Twitter as a way to answer queries and concerns relating to their products or services. Its quick and easy conversation systems through direct messages and tweets, enables you to reply in a moment’s notice. This is great for both you and the customer; it shows them that you’re on the ball and always looking out for them.  Customer interaction through Twitter can also highlight where you might need improvement within your business.

Always look out for messages from customers.  Not responding quickly enough can undermine your relationship with them, while being proactive in your responses can increase your brand loyalty and reputation and may lead to future sales.

The key to content on Twitter

Twitter’s restricted character count per tweet means you have to choose your words wisely, which can be difficult. However, there are several ways to get around this:

  • Links: Lead people to another location with a more in-depth description of what you’re trying to convey. These links could be to a company blog, your website or an event you’re promoting. Make sure the tweet isn’t misleading and it is relevant to your followers.
  • Imagery: We’re visual creatures and your tweets are much more likely to grab the attention of your followers if you include an image. This could be of a new product or service.
  • Industry news: For your business to stand out as a well-informed part of your sector, it’s important to show you’re up to date with current affairs relating to your company’s products or services. This shows that you’re proactive and always keeping an eye out for changes.

Though Twitter is a platform that requires a lot of your attention, once you start the ball rolling, you’re likely to see your analytics rise over time. At the end of the day, you’re not likely to get a huge amount of direct sales, but it’s about keeping your business in the front of your customers’ minds at all time.
